Upper Hutt Leader : May 11th 2011
16 UPPER HUTT LEADER, MAY 11, 2011 NEWS Company Profle 3650187 Preserving memories for the next generation Since the invention of the camera in the mid-1800s, people have been recording momentous occasions in both their personal and business lives. With the invention of the digital camera these images can now be preserved on archive discs for future generations. But what about photos taken using the old polyester flm technology? This is where Jewel Services Ltd comes in. This new Upper Hutt business uses the latest technology to digitise negatives and slides and places them on a USB memory stick or a CD. "You can scan any picture on a fat-bed scanner, but the quality is not so good and it does not offer you the opportunity to retouch the pictures," owner August Dubois says. "The special software and the pictures we have allows for dust and scratch removal and retouching the negatives so the output of the scanning process is like it has been taken with a digital camera. "Cherished moments from customers are important to them. "For some person it might be a picture of a deceased relative or a marriage and for other people it might be something different. "What is amazing for me is the opportunity to retouch the pictures to a good quality digital picture." As time passes old polyester photographic flm shrinks, becomes brittle and the colour of the photograph fades. For more information about JEWEL SERVICES Contact August Dubois on 021 0224 5377 or firstname.lastname@example.org Do you miss cherished moments from before 2000? We can convert them for you so that you can enjoy them on your digital media. To get your history digitised with high density and high quality apply for an info pack at: email@example.com Are you in a nostalgic mood? 3727283AA Mr Dubois believes it is time to digitise photos that were shot more than 12 years ago so that treasured memories will be retained. "I have done a few in the last couple of weeks that were taken by an underwater camera in 1997 in the Philippines while people were snorkelling. "The output is absolutely stunning. They [the customer] were just amazed and really happy to see that the pictures looked so good." Jewel Services Ltd also scans old printed photographs where the colour has faded or the picture is over or under exposed. "We had over-exposed pictures which were too light and using the software we made the picture come up directly. Jewel Services Ltd can also digitise old VHS video tapes onto DVD or memory stick and are investigating getting software specifc to digitising old black and white photographs and compact cassettes.
