Pair join for cossie show Opshop lead singer: Jason Kerrison. LRB voice: Glenn Shorrock. Two favourite Australasian singers from different generations are breaking down age barriers and teaming up for a series of con- certs across New Zealand including the Upper Hutt Cos- sie Club on Friday, June 24. Glenn Shorrock, the voice of Australia s Little River Band, and Jason Kerrison, lead singer of New Zealand s Opshop, will ditch the hard edge of electric rock, opting instead for a cosier, intimate sound in shows from Auck- land to Invercargill. Shorrock, whose career spans more than 40 years, helped form the Little River Band in 1974. In that time LRB has solidified itself as one of Aus- tralia s most celebrated music groups, achieving inter- national acclaim with songs like Help is on Its Way, Home on a Monday, The Other Guy, Cool Change, The Night Owl, and Reminiscing. For the upcoming tour, he will perform LRB classics with a three-man backing band in an intimate acoustic setting, with the intention of encouraging audience partici- pation. His repertoire will include songs by other artists, including The Beatles. Earlier this year, Shorrock had to cancel a planned per- formance in Christchurch because of the earthquake crisis, so he moved his show to Queenstown and presented a benefit concert, with all proceeds going to the relief effort. As a testament to his enduring tal- ent, he has been twice inducted into the Aria Hall of Fame -- once in 1991 in his own right and again with LRB in 2004. His credentials include starring roles in theatre and cabaret in shows such as Evita and The Rocky Horror Show. Christchurch-raised Kerr- ison, although much younger than Shorrock, has already established himself as one of the forces of contemporary New Zealand music. He and Opshop have also been helping the city get back on its feet, donating all proceeds from the band s single Love Will Always Win to the recovery effort. The band performed the song at the recent "Rise Up Christchurch" global telethon, which raised more than $2.5 million. Kerrison was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for his services to the music industry in the recent Queen s Birthday honours list. The tour starts in Auck- land, then travels to Upper Hutt, Napier, Queenstown, Christchurch, Balclutha, Dunedin, Timaru and Invercargill. Tickets are $25.
