Children and adults of all ages will be delighted and inspired by this exhibition, which celebrates the worlds and stories revealed in picture books today. Original artwork, sketches and drawings will be on display VECTOR GALLERY 20th May - 10th July FASHION VICTIM -- EXHIBITION BY JACQUELINE TUCKEY Jacqueline Tuckey's latest works utilise the extinct Huia bird to exemplify and ponder the practice of taxidermy and adornment and give tribute to a bird that owes it demise to fashion. This exhibition will encompass works on canvas, free standing sculptures and wall sculptures. All art works are for sale. ROTARY FOYER 12th June - 7th July THROUGH THE YEARS PAINTINGS BY ERIC BROWN Local artist Eric Brown displays a retrospective collection of oil, watercolour and pastel paintings. Characters and scenes from children's books will decorate the walls at Expressions for its new exhi- bition, A New Page -- Emerging Chil- dren Books Illustrators. Works by nine illustrators at the beginning of their careers will be on display in Mount Marua Gallery from July 1 till August 20. Six of the illustrators, Harriet Bailey, Stephanie Junovich, Neroli Williams, Sara Acton, Heather Arnold and Gary Venn, are finalists in the first Storylines Gavin Bishop Award. The other three are already-published artists Rachel Driscoll, illustrator of NZ Post Book of the Year 2010, Brian Lovelock, illustrator of the NZ Post Picture Book of the Year 2009, and Sarah Anderson. At least half of the work on display will consist of preparatory drawings. Expressions exhibition officer Chriss Doherty-McGregor said they were thrilled'' to host the exhibition. Two of the prize winners. Harriet Bailey and Rachel Driscoll, are local illustrators. This is a fabulous way to acknowledge and show off the talent we have here.''. Children's fun activities are planned. Storytellers from Upper Hutt Library will be there on Friday, July 8, July 22 and August 5 to entertain children from two to five with songs, stories and themed craft from 10.30am till 11am. Harriet Bailey will be at Expressions on Wednesday, July 20, between 10.30am and 2.30pm with children's activity The Gigantic Page'' based on the theme of her first illustrated book Hester & Lester by Kyle Mewburn. Children aged 4 to 12 can come and go between these times to take part in creating a large mural that will be displayed at Expressions. Rachel Driscoll, illustrator and cre- ator of the loveable characters from the award-winning children's book Old Hu Hu will visit on Sunday, August 7, from 10.30 till 12.30pm with Off The Page,'' an activity to designed to teach children aged 8 to 12 fun ways to create their own unique characters. Suitable for all levels of drawing ability, you just need a wonderful imagination. Guest artist: Mainly Acoustic Music Club presents touring international singer- guitarist Gilley Darbey next Tuesday at the Mayfair Cafe. Her voice has been described by critics as ''hauntingly beautiful'' and ''simply stunning'' and compared with that of the late Eva Cassidy. Her career takes her to festivals in Europe, Hong Kong, the United States and Australia. The concert starts at 7.30pm with songs from local performers. Darbey will be onstage around 9pm. Entry is $13 for non-members and $10 for members.
