Special donation boxes are being installed in New World supermarkets throughout the lower North Island in the Heads Up for Kids which turns old money into new for the benefit of youth. The campaign began in 2010. Last month Silverstream New World was the first supermarket to have a donation box installed and already the old currency is pouring in. We are proud to support Heads Up for Kids and Silverstream Lions. It s a unique campaign which aligns with New World s commitment to the community and as it collects unwanted money it doesn t compete with any other fundraising projects, says Antony Rus- sell from Silverstream New World. To ensure shoppers do not forget to forage in cupboards and drawers for the benefit of Kiwi kids, the donation boxes will hold labelled envelopes which shoppers can take home, fill up and drop into the donation box on their next visit to New World. Roy Peterson, past president of Silver- stream Lions, says they are delighted to have support from New World Silver- stream and believe they will see a sub- stantial rise in donations as a result. Silverstream Lions have made a big investment in Heads Up for Kids, meet- ing weekly in Lower Hutt to sort through the piles of obsolete coins and banknotes. Mr Peterson says that since the cam- paign launched last year his team has sorted more than eight tonnes of coins which have been exchanged for $150,000. Funds will help young people attend Outward Bound, Spirit of Adventure and the Sir Edmund Hillary Outdoor Pursuits Centre, and support Lions Clubs programmes for young people. Currency is also being collected for Lions by Mitre 10 and Resene branches. People wanting to donate direct to Sil- verstream Lions should contact Rex Bullard 0275 714 103. Then advertisers know you do not want their sales calls or direct mail advertising, advises the Ministry of Consumer Affairs Responsible marketers want to tell you all about their product and try to make a sale, but they do not want to annoy people who have said they do not wish to receive such offers. Do not mail and do not call are lists held by the Marketing Association and most advertisers check these lists before they start making calls or sending mail. You can sign up by: Filling out an online form on the Marketing Association website marketing.org.nz. Phoning 0800 222 332. Send your full name address and telephone num- ber to Do Not Call List/Do Not Mail, Marketing Association, PO Box 47681, Ponsonby, Auckland 1144. Email the same details to donotcall@mar- keting.org.nz; email@example.com. You should notice a decrease in the volume of unsolicited calls from being on the do not call list and less direct mail advertising from being on the do not mail list. However, being on the list does not guarantee to stop all phone calls because not every company subscribes to the service, nor can calls from overseas be controlled or stopped. Each person is listed individually, so other people in your household might need to sign up to do not call and do not mail as well. The do not mail list only covers addressed mail.
