Last Friday week, July 8, produced a bright orange sunset. But the next day Upper Hutt went white after an afternoon hailstorm. Around 3pm the sky darkened. Rain and strong winds followed the hailstorm. Misty morn: Sunrise from Silverstream last Saturday. Photo: MARY SUE SEVERN Orange glow: Friday, July 8, about 5pm from the Queen St car park. Photo: GLYNIS NG Uphill battle: Mike Magyar took this photo in King Charles Dr outside the Rimutaka fire station where he works. Shortly afterwards they responded to minor flooding of a house and buildings in the CBD due to hail blocking gutters. Rimutaka and Trentham fire station staff removed and cut up a tree fallen across most of McParland St. Sidewalk slush: Not the usual sight in Queen St. Photo: GLYNIS NG
