Upper Hutt Leader : July 20th 2011
55 UPPER HUTT LEADER, JULY 20, 2011 FREEMASONS -- MANGAROA LODGE FRIENDS' NIGHT -- Tuesday 9th August IF YOU'VE EVER WONDERED WHAT FREEMASONRY IS ALL ABOUT, COME ALONG AND FIND OUT The invitation is to anyone interested in seeing and hearing about the fraternity -- who and what we are and what we do in the community. While we are a men's fraternal society, we believe strongly in involving the family so this invitation to come along is ex- tended to partners/wives as well. The evening will start at 7pm at THE MASONIC CENTRE, ISLINGTON STREET, TRENTHAM. You'll be able to visit the lodge room and find out what it looks like and to hear how Freemasonry operates. Afterwards, a light supper will be available with the chance to mingle with the Lodge members, their families and other guests. We anticipate the evening activities will be over no later than 10 pm. If you require transportation we'd be very happy to organise this -- just let us know. We are seeking your input into this vital planning process. Considerable background work has been undertaken to draft the Maymorn Structure Plan. It has been prepared to guide the future residential development of the city in the Maymorn area, as a response to the expected population growth in Upper Hutt. The project was identifed by the Upper Hutt Urban Growth Strategy completed in 2007. We are keen to hear your feedback on the proposal. This is an essential step in the planning process. BACKGROUND The proposed Maymorn Structure Plan is the result of signifcant strategic work planning for the future growth of Upper Hutt. The Plan will provide for medium-term growth by accommodating approximately 1800 dwellings with the population at Maymorn expected to exceed 4000 people over a 10 to 20 year period from the commencement of construction. The proposed development would occupy the north-eastern corner of the Mangaroa Valley, bounded by the Mangaroa River and surrounding hillside. It has been designed to respect the rural amenities surrounding the site. The Plan has been developed with an urban design focus, drawing on key urban design and sustainability principles, with varying housing densities proposed. It responds to natural areas and the landscape by seeking to protect and enhance waterways and surrounding hills. Density has been planned in order to respect and transition the development into the surrounding rural areas. CONSULTATION PERIOD The closing date for receipt of submissions is Friday 12 August 2011.
