Mr Delaney established Flair Flooring in Upper Hutt more than 22 years ago. It is now one of the oldest flooring companies in the Hutt Valley. In 2008 he decided to join forces with like-minded flooring retailers and joined flooring co-operative Flooring Xtra. The initiative allows Mr Delaney to provide his customers with a personal, locally-based service while taking advantage of Flooring Xtra's buying power. Flair Flooring Xtra employs a team of five in the showroom in Pine Ave and eight carpet and vinyl layers -- many of whom have worked for the company for years. Flair Flooring Xtra also run a substantial retail operation in Carterton employing eight staff servicing all of the Wairarapa. When you visit the showrooms you will see all New Zealand's leading products on display along with selected imports. The emphasis has always been on pure wool carpet with strong support for 100 per cent New Zealand-made product. Flair Flooring has consistently won the top awards from leading New Zealand carpet manufacturer Cavalier Bremworth for providing exceptionally high standards of service and quality. Mr Delaney is often asked his secret to success. ''It's no secret, we just keep our word which means quality products and quality service and we have always had the support of the community and at the end of the day it's all team effort,'' he says. Awards backed by club The Upper Hutt Cosmopolitan Club is proud sponsor of the best education business category at the Upper Hutt Business and Achievement awards. Manager Dean Candy speaks highly of being a part of the awards. ''Our ongoing support of Upper Hutt was the reason we became a sponsor,'' he says. ''The sponsorship reinforces our support. ''It is an important event on the calendar because it gives us the opportunity to acknowledge local businesses and celebrate success.'' Speaking of the reason behind picking the category, Mr Candy acknowledges a staff focus tying into the Upper Hutt Cossie Club winning best employer awards two years in a row. ''We picked this category because of our commitment to train and upskill our staff, and it was a natural mix,'' he says. ''The necessary qualities for a best education business are to have a structured approach to staff training with clear goals, utilise the best service providers available and to be fully committed in terms of funding and resources.''
