By ROSEMARY McLENNAN When Margaret White was diag- nosed with type one diabetes at eight years old she became a guinea pig for the medical fra- ternity and a role model for others. The Upper Hutt woman was determined to have a normal life and received Sir Charles Burns Memorial Awards for clocking up 50 and 60 years on insulin, to become one of the country’s longest users. She died peacefully at Hutt Hospital on July 18 aged 75. She fell at her Trentham home and broke her arm. She was admit- ted to hospital where she devel- oped a chest infection, then pneumonia. Born Margaret Wiren she grew up in Lower Hutt. Her dia- betes was discovered after her older brother had a late diabetes diagnosis and died at 13. Diabetes was usually an older person’s disease and Mrs White spent the next three or four years in and out of Hutt Hos- pital where doctors experiment- ed to get her insulin levels right and balanced it with regular exercise and the right diet. She was tutored at home and was pleased to return to school and a fairly normal routine. Her father, Archie Wiren, had a long association with the New Zealand Alpine Club and worked to obtain sponsorship for Sir Edmund Hillary and George Lowe’s involvement in the 1951 and 1953 expeditions to Mt Everest. Mrs White was present at an afternoon tea her father hosted for the two men before their departure. Doctors had little idea what sort of lifespan she had or if she would be able to have children. She proved them wrong. She became a competitive swimmer, fell in love, married first hus- band Trevor Williams and had two children. Mr Williams was later also diagnosed with type one dia- betes. Daughter Linda Whitham told mourners at her funeral on July 22 they grew up thinking urine tests and regular injections of insulin were the daily routines of all parents. The couple, fearing their children might develop diabetes (they did not), restricted the sugar they ate. Breakfast was bacon and eggs and dinner meat and three vegetables. Cakes and biscuits were allowed but not with icing, which was permitted only on birthday cakes. The couple later divorced and 31 years ago Mrs White married her second husband, Bert, a family friend. She moved to Wellington and continued her involvement in teaching lifesaving and joined the Upper Hutt Toastmistress Club where she won many speech competitions. She was a keen wordsmith and member of a poetry group. Several years ago the Whites moved from Maoribank to Sum- merset where they made many friends although Mrs White suffered severe hearing loss dur- ing the past few years. Funeral celebrant Glenda Barratt said people in the vil- lage were drawn to her. She continued daily walks, often in Harcourt Park, and swimming 40 lengths of the 25-metre Stokes Valley Pool two or three times a week. In an interview in 2006 Mrs White had special thanks for her husband’s devotion to moni- toring her condition. Truth For Our Times Part One Hundred & Thirty One To be continued, A. Carter There will be many nations on eartn when Jesus comes to rule over the world during the future 1000 years. In rev. 20:5 we read “ But the rest of the dead did not live till the 1000 years were ended. This is the first resurrection”. Also there are some people who believe that after the coming great tribulation which will be cut short, otherwise no flesh would survive, that there will be no more nations. That through this great time of trouble all the wicked will be destroyed. In the Diaglott that I have, it says to omitt Rev 20:5, as if this text was true, it would do away with all the wonderful times on this earth when all those millions will be brought forth from the grave to hear of the salvation through our Lord. The following Scriptures show there will be many nations on this earth when Jesus starts ruling. “He shall speak peace unto the nations”, Zech. 8:10. “And he will destroy in this mountain the face of the covering that covereth all peoples, and the veil that is spread over all nations”, Isa. 25:6,7. Surely to destroy the veil that is over all peoples and nations, the nations would have to really exist there under the veil. Also the new world is to be lighted by the glory of God:“And the nations will walk by means of its light”, Rev. 21:24. “And cast him (Satan) into the Abyss, and shut up and sealed over him, so that he might deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years be ended. And will go forth to decieve the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Rev. 20:3,8. “In thee shall all the nations be blessed”,Acts 3:8 “And to him that overcometh and keepeth my works unto the end, will I give power over the nations”, Rev. 2:26. “After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne”, Rev. 7:9..Points to the time at the end of the one thousand years when the people off all nations will stand before the throne. “..for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgements are made manifest”, Rev. 15:4. Through Adam’s sin all go into Adamic Death, not Second Death. Some believe that all the wicked of the human race will go into the Second Death during the future coming tribulation. This would mean for countless millions, they have or will go directly into the Second Death. Nowhere is there a Scriptural basis for this. Whether we like it or not, all mankind is born under the condemnation of sin, and consequently the wages for this sin is Adamic Death, or first death. When we die we go to Hell, the grace or the pit but, the whole human race from Adam to the last person born in this age has been redeemed from that state through the ransom sacrifice of Jesus Christ. “For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive”: 1 Cor. 15:21,22. “For since by man (Adam) came death, by man (Jesus) also came the resurrection of the dead”, 1 Cor. 15:21. 3578591AK
