Bike challenge Life Education Trust Hutt Valley is running a children's bike challenge at Trentham Memorial Park on October 2. The event costs $5 to enter and there are two courses for each skill level. ''It's all about encouraging a healthy lifestyle for a healthy life,'' says educator Jo Mortimer. Children are given a licence to attach to their bike and compete as many laps as they can. Spot prizes will be given out and there will also be an obstacle course. Life Education will also fundraise with a raffle, which includes a mountainbike donated by Scott Mortimer, from Fresh Start Finance. Funding available The Ministry of Science and Innovation has funding available for businesses with suitable research projects to employ undergraduates. There are 200 internship places available nationwide. Upper Hutt city promotion manager Paul Lambert says the programme has real merit. Applications are open until midday on Tuesday, September 27. The project is open to all sizes of businesses that have a focus on research and development. Businesses will be notified of funding decisions by November 9 to enable recruitment of interns by December 2. Full details are available at msi.govt.nz/ business/capability/undergrad or contact Paul Lambert on 527 2141 for help.
