The 25th Hutt Valley Girls' Brigade Company cel- ebrated its 50th anniversary on Sunday, September 18.The company is based at St Margaret's Church in Silverstream. The celebrations began with a buffet lunch for about 40 past members, present leaders and supporters. This was followed by a church service which cur- rent members and parents also attended. Highlights included the commissioning of Lin Coleman as an officer, and presenting service certificates to the Rev Lynn Russell for 10 years as the chaplain; Alison Marshall for 15 years as an officer and Sheryn Rosanowski for 30 years as an officer. Afternoon tea followed and included cutting of the cake, made and decorated by Thelma O'Connell. It was cut by Megan Pilcher, the newest mem- ber of the company, and Sheryn Rosanowski, the captain.
