'Good day' at the races at Trentham By ROSEMARY McLENNAN MORE RACING This Saturday Trentham hosts its first major race meeting of the season featuring the Group 2 New Zealand Bloodstock Wellington Guineas. There are 10 races on the card, the first starts at 12.40pm. The next racing at Trentham will be on Tuesday, November 1, for Melbourne Cup Day. Entry to the afternoon race meeting will be free. More than 1500, including many Rugby World Cup tourists, enjoyed a day of racing and cul- ture at Trentham on Friday. They included 50 campervans of visitors from Australia, South Africa, Ireland and Wales, plus the Irish Rugby Football Union administration staff, members of the public and club members. A hangi by Orongomai Marae to raise funds for Relay for Life proved popular as well as cultural performances, music, stalls and racing. The weather turned on a good day too. Stephen Chamberlain from Trentham Racecourse said it was a good day'' and they were pleased with the turnout.
