19 UPPER HUTT LEADER, NOVEMBER 16, 2011 NEWS C H p , 16 M , pp Hu R E CHRIS HIPKINS MP RIM AKA O E HIPKINS AND LABO R N NO EMBER SO E CAN N O R F RE Au O ON O XApp a hab X Ou sp k n X Ca ing X En g i X Ha dw king Thieves strike young family twice MISSING: This truck was stolen from a family home on the first of two nights they were targeted. FAMILY WHEELS: The family car was immobilised on the second night. Couple feel 'targeted' A young Pinehaven family is in shock after thieves targeted them twice in two days, taking their truck, stealing the tyres off the family vehicle and even taking their baby's car seat. Kirstyn and Dave Mellors woke up on November 8 to find Dave's work truck was gone. Also, the family car had been broken into, the car seat stolen and the baby-on-board sign ripped off the back windscreen and left on the ground. The next morning Dave left the house to discover they had been targeted a second time, with the family car missing. I thought there's no way they'd come back,'' Kirstyn says. Then Dave went up on Wednesday morning and came back and was shaking and white and said, You're just not going to believe this, they've taken your car'. So I just started bawling, I was hysterical because that car is everything to me and Quinn, it makes us functional.'' The police found the car up the road minus all its tyres, but nothing else was missing. Dave says he just felt disbelief. On the first night you just think, Have I left it somewhere else, like down the road or some- thing?' and then on the second night you're like, Is this for real?'.'' Kirstyn says she feels targeted by the incidents. It's just the most horrible feeling. I almost feel a little agoraphobic, like there is some- one out there who is trying to get me. We are both really upset and really on edge. What kind of people do this kind of stuff? I mean, to steal a baby's car seat is just so cold. They didn't even take the stereo.'' Police are after information from anyone who was in the Wyndham Rd area in Pinehaven and saw anything unusual from the evening of Monday, Novem- ber 7 to the morning of Wednesday, November 9. The mag wheels taken from the family car are custom-made, 17 inch, black alloy wheels. The car seat is a Safe and Sound child car seat. Also missing are a pair of Twins black kick-boxing gloves with a white dragon design, light metallic-blue club kick- boxing shorts, black Twins shin guards, a black and tan camel- back backpack, a mouth guard, and a pair of new brown John Bull rigger boots. Anyone with any information, please call the Upper Hutt police station on 527 2300.
