St Joseph s Ven- turer Scouts are using an old- fashioned tried-and- true fundraising method to help some of their members on their way -- selling lamin- gtons. Twenty three Venturer Scouts will attend the 12th New Zealand Ven- ture in Southland late next year, and three will attend the 46th Walsh Memorial Scout Flying School in Matamata in January. At Venture Extreme -- to be held in Riverton from December 2012 -- Ven- turer Scouts aged from 14 to 18 from all over New Zealand and Australia will participate in five-day expeditions of their choice all over Southland, from caving and diving, tramping and mountain biking, to sailing and theatre craft. In the second phase, they will all camp together for local daily activi- ties. The three Venturers attending the flying school will join 68 other teenagers aged between 16 and 20 years of age. Many hours of intensive training will culminate in a small- plane solo flight. This is the Venturers biggest fundraiser of the year and the sales target is 12,000 lamingtons. The lamington making is being done with the assistance of Graeme and Annette Hyde and their team at Buttercup Bakery, who have supported the Venturers over many years by allowing them to use the bakery after hours. Pak n Save Bak- ery will supply the ingredients. The price is unchanged from last year, at $15 per dozen and they are available in chocolate, raspberry or half-and-half.
