Calendar girl: First-time entrant Ruby France, 9, from Pinehaven School, has a picture and a poem, both about libraries, published. She visits Pinehaven Library at school and each week her mother gets her books from the central library. The avid reader is a fan of Roald Dahl and prefers fiction to non- fiction. Photo: ROSEMARY McLENNAN By ROSEMARY McLENNAN The best one so far'', is how mayor Wayne Guppy describes the latest children's calendar made for Upper Hutt. The popular production, made up of poems and drawings by Upper Hutt children about civic- related topics, is delivered to households in the city, and spare copies are eagerly sought from the Upper Hutt i-SITE. People ring up demanding them from all over the place,'' Mr Guppy told a special morning tea in his office for the young artists and writers. But he was disappointed some people hung the calendars in their toilets. Don't hang them there,'' he said. The theme for next year's 13-month calendar is saving water, especially with one of the Macaskill Lakes empty for earthquake-strengthening. I don't know why they didn't build it like that 20 years ago,'' Mr Guppy said. The calendar, which works on a Monday to Sunday week, includes dates of major Upper Hutt events and council information. Entries for the calendar will be displayed at the central library on a monthly rotation basis. The timetable is included with the calendar and will be on the library website.
