This Christmas give someone special a unique Gift Voucher niqu 3489984AW Review panel ready for trespass rules By COLIN WILLIAMS A two-person review panel has been set up by the city council as it moves towards the introduc- tion of new Main St trespass laws. Policy already approved by the council, in the joint city- police initiative to halt continu- ing tagging and etching of retail properties, allows for trespassed people to have a right of review. A formal committee had been proposed but the smaller review panel will carry out the role. Councillors Nick Thomas and Glenn McArthur will be on the panel, with Nellie Gillies the alternate appointment. The change to the smaller panel is about timing and efficiency. A panel, rather than a com- mittee, will be able to process and make decisions on review applications more promptly, a report from the city solicitor Andrea Hilton says. The trespass laws, which are on target to be in place by the new year, will prevent tres- passed individuals from entering Main St between King St and Pine Ave. The move has seen the coun- cil, as owner of Main St, del- egate its trespass powers to the police. The right of review is seen as a key element in the design and to counter any infringement of an individual s rights. Under the laws, it is accepted any notice issued must not pre- vent an individual from accessing services such as a doc- tor, pharmacy, supermarket, school or his or her residence. Time for a clean-out This Saturday morning the Rimutaka Tavern car park will be the venue for a car boot sale. This is a great time to clean out your excess clutter and earn some extra cash in time for Christmas. All stallholders are welcome and sites cost $10. This is a fundraising initiative organised by the Timberlea Community Centre. The centre runs an after-school programme for the children in the area, a community garden, free internet access and provides a venue for other agencies offering services to this area. It is a great location with a lot of passing traffic and we thank the Rimutaka Tavern for allowing us to use their car park, Janet Harmon, the event organiser, says. To book a site call Ms Harmon on 526 8668 or turn up on the day. The event, which may become monthly, runs 8am till 11.30am.
