Work will begin at both stations on Monday, December 26, and they will reopen on Tuesday, January 24. Kenepuru Station's platforms will be resurfaced, the southbound platform frontage will be replaced and the main access path on the southbound side will be upgraded to prevent any further erosion. Naenae Station's precast concrete platform frontages will be strengthened. Porirua or Linden are the closest alternate stations to Kenepuru. Epuni or Wingate are the closest stations to Naenae. More work will be done later in 2012. Buses will replace trains from Monday, Decem- ber 26, on both Kapiti and Hutt Lines. Train services will resume on the Porirua line on January 4, and on the Hutt line on January 8. Full normal services will resume on January 9. St Nicholas story celebrated Spectacular nativity scene: This year Iona Centre will not be decorated with lights as has been done in the past few years, but the centre does have a life-sized nativity scene, which can be viewed during the day, and is lit in the evenings. It was designed and constructed by Judy Lindsay and Marion Clegg. The story of St Nicholas will be the focus of the first night of Christmas cele- brations by the Upper Hutt Uniting Parish. The Methodist-Presby- terian parish has a full pro- gramme of events this Christmas and invites locals to join them. On Saturday, December 17, at 7.30pm, at the Iona Centre, 11 Ebdentown St, the story of St Nicholas will be celebrated in a light- hearted way as parishioners consider the stories of his life and some of the music around these stories. The programme will be in two parts -- the first with its focus on St Nicholas, and the second, after supper, will be traditional carol singing. Entry is a gold coin donation, plus a gift of food to be given to the food bank in the Upper Hutt version of St Nicholas's tradition of sharing with the poor. Sunday, December 18, will be the traditional service of nine lessons and carols, held at Wesley Cen- tre, 1 Benzie Ave, at 7pm -- another great opportunity for carol singing in the con- text of the traditional stories. On Christmas Eve two services will be held in the historic old Wallaceville church in Whitemans Valley, at 6pm and 7pm. These will be in the traditional fam- ily worship style, and members of the congregations will be invited to share in the worship through various activities. Christmas Day services will be held at 9am at both Iona and Wesley Centres and will again be in the style of tra- ditional family worship.
