One of the Lord's first utterances after His baptism was a reference to Jacob's dream. "And he saith unto him, Verily, verily I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man", John 1:51. Jacobs dream was one of the earliest indications regarding the mediatorial character of the work of the promised Deliverer. This Dream afforded the Lord an excellent illustration to lay before the people of His own position between God and man, by whom alone we may approach God and be received, and through whom alone God's favours are granted to us, 2 Cor. 1:20. The ladder which Jacob saw in his dream was a representation of Jesus, whom God placed in the position of Mediator, the one and only channel between heaven and earth, between God and man, He is the Way and there is no other. "I am the Way, the truth and the life, no man cometh to the Father, but by me, John 14:6. Jesus is the only one to occupy this position, for the one Mediator between God and men is the One, the Only One, who died on their behalf, the just for the unjust. "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Crist Jesus; who gave himself a ransom for all to be testified in due time, 1 Tim. 2:5, 6. A testimony in due time" indicates that in due time God gave this testimony of His will that all men should be brought to the knowledge of the truth, verse 4. On account of the entrance of sin into the world by original transgression, the whole race was constituted sinners and therefore everyone of us needs the offices of Jesus as Mediator to reconcile us to God. Let us note what the scriptures teach as to the relationship between God and the members of the Body of Christ, the Church, before they became such, and let us especially notice whether such persons are said to be at variance to God at that time or not, and whether or not they were in need of reconciliation or mediation. If they were at variance to God, and if they needed reconciliation to Him, then anyone who brought about such reconciliation must be a Mediator, their Mediator, a Mediator between God and Man. There is none righteous, no not one, for all have sinned"' Romans 3:10, 23. "For yet when we were without strength in due time Christ died for the ungodly; while we were yet sinners; for if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God"' Romans 5:6, 8, 10. "And you that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath He reconciled", Col. 1:21. Part One Hundred & Forty One. Jesus our Mediator continued To be continued. There were lots of happy smiles at Wellington Children s Hospital when All Blacks Piri Weepu and Cory Jane came to visit. They were there to launch the popular Prime Hotels Ginger- bread House Challenge to raise funds for Wellington Children s Hospital. The boys were presented with a Rugby World Cup themed decorated gingerbread house which was auctioned on Trade Me -- with a photograph signed by the two players. Two Wellington sisters, Antoin- ette Muollo-Aharoni and Justine Muollo, cooked up the idea of the gingerbread house challenge last year as a fun way to bring Wel- lington families together for a good cause. Justine, from the Protein Bak- ery, baked the gingerbread house kits, while Antoinette used her contacts in the hospitality sector to sponsor the fundraising concept for the Children s Hospital Christmas Appeal. Decorating a gingerbread house has always been a Christmas tradition in my family, and I thought it would be nice to share the idea with other famil- ies, says Antoinette. Last year more than 1000 gin- gerbread house kits were sold, raising more than $10,000 for the annual Wellington Children s Hospital Christmas Appeal. Imaginatively decorated houses can even be entered into a compe- tition to win a range of prizes including an iPad and luxury nights in the capital. The gingerbread house kits are available from Moore Wilsons, the Abel Tasman Hotel, the Central City Apartment Hotel, and the Wellington Hospital 2 gift shop. They cost $25 with $10 from the sale of each house going to Wel- lington Children s Hospital. For more information visit primehotels.co.nz/kidscharity
